I first came across this paper reading a Byte issue dedicated to Lisp. I have been looking for an online copy for some time, only to find it in the Scheme bibliography mentioned here recently.
The paper is quite short (though the document is long, containing all code and diagrams on seperate pages), and starts with some examples that also appear in SICP. The major theme of the paper - that of embedded DSLs - may seem old-hat these days, but the the paper is worth checking out for the examples alone. I personally enjoy going back to older papers (this one from 1987), to see the origins at development of interesting ideas.
