Sociological Insights

I suppose most LtU readers know that I am interested in the social dynamics in programming language communities. This Microsoft Research tool analyzes Usenet traffic, and gives interesting insights.

Simply puch in that you are interested in groups that start with "comp.lang", and take a look at the results.

For example, you can compare the number of people who posted more than one message, the number of replies, and the ratio of posters to posts.

This doesn't seem to work at all on Mozilla or Netscape under Linux. God bless Microsoft and their platform-dependent ways! ;-)

Worked fine for me under OmniWeb on OS X 10.2. Perhaps we should be god-blessing Mozilla and Netscape 4? :P
