ICFP programming contest results
The results of the ICFP (International Contest on Functional Programming) programming competition have been posted. Once again, an entry written in ocaml won the contest, while second prize went to an entry written in plain old C (!). The judges' prize went to an entry written in python, which I believe is a first for this contest. So far the source code for the entries hasn't been posted, but stay tuned.

I'm not a fan of programming contests at all, but I like this one. One reason is that its goal is primarily to highlight the languages used, and only secondarily the skills of the contestants. The other is that the rewards are mostly peer recognition, with a little bit of money thrown in.

I guess this contest proves that C is the second-best functional programming language ;-) The horror, the horror...

Is there a table showing how many teams used each language?

With so many teams using Ocaml, no wonder it won. (And I can only find one team that used Ada....)

Thanks. This table shows that the fact that Ocaml and C won means less that what you might think.

Oh you ol' spoil-sport ;-)

Glory to the winners and their languages!

To hear you say that! After the way Erlang performed?!

I know this is offtopic, but I think there is a bug in the LtU message board code. The main blog page says this topic has 2 responses, but at the time of this writing, there are 5 actual responses. This seems to happen to many of the topic responses..

??

It's not a bug, it's a feature...

The number you see is the number of responses to the item on the main page. The other responses are, in fact, responses to responses.

You can see this by looking at the whole thread.

Erlang performed magnificently, though we Erlang teams were out-hacked on the day. My hat's off to the winners :-)
