I came across this wiki yesterday, since it linked to the LtU discussion on code reading...

"our own Avi Bryant to tell us all about it.."
Well, right now we're all sitting at the Pho-Tran restaurant in Urbana reading Lambda over wi-fi...

Scanning the Recent Changes I came across the page on Decalartive vs. Procedural representation. Quite relevant for LtU. Some f my thoughts on the subject are here.

Metaphors, now that's antother favorite topic. See here and here for a couple of examples culled from the LtU archives.
Notice that the "execution model" idea I mentioned before is yet another form of metaphor.

It would be very nice to get a Gmane feed for the MFA mailing list. Melikesnot those Yahoo! Groups, but I'd like to follow the list.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does one do with an RSS feed? :-)

You are kidding, right?
But if not, check this page for the basics.
Two LtU RSS feeds are available one for the homepage and one for the discussion group.

Hey, this is pretty handy :-)
What's a polite polling interval? Userland have currently kicked me off for hitting them too many times while setting up :-)

Generally one hour. I'd say at most 4 times an hour, but you've got to have a very good reason to do so.

The LtU RSS feed rejects all my requests from wget saying "you're hitting us too hard", but accepts any request from Gnus or Firebird. The irony is that I'm using wget in cron to reduce the number of requests I make. Sending a "User-Agent:" that doesn't contain the string "wget" works, but doesn't feel ideal.
Welcome to the WebServices future?

Userland uses the User-Agent string to block Search Engine bots that crawl the site to fast, causing the server to choke. Blocking wget sounds like a bug to me. Maybe you could ask someone at Userland (http://www.userland.com/contact) to unblock you?

S'ok, pressing "Reload" in the browser isn't that bad in retrospect :-)
