what causes really wide pages?

e.g.

http://lambda-the-ultimate.org/node/3129

shows up as like 2x wide in my firefox (on a mac).

Select your preferred way to display the comments and click "Save settings" to activate your changes.

PRE

Use of the <PRE>...</PRE> blocks causes really wide pages, since the page will widen to support the width of the block.

This especially occurs when the page is deep into threadmode, so the 'PRE' block starts butted up against the right hand side of the comments section.

The specific page you mention has its width set by this comment.

i think the indentation scheme has always bugged me, because it doesn't do the job of stopping long discussions, it just makes them unreadable, and then breaks the page width in situations like this.
