apologies if this strikes you all as way too old hat; i found it interesting as it seems to me to have been an offshoot that didn't grow enough, although it isn't entirely dead what with context-oriented approaches, dci, object teams for java, et. al.

Subjectivity in object-oriented systems is a new research
area. At this, the first workshop in this area, there was
much discussion of fundamental concepts and issues, as
well as of perceived needs for subjectivity and models for
realizing it. The discussion is summarized here, and a list
of issues that were identified during the workshop is
presented.
